Ramesses II commonly known as Ramesses the Great, was an Egyptian pharaoh. He was the third ruler of the Nineteenth Dynasty. Along with Thutmose III of the Eighteenth Dynasty .He was the greatest, most celebrated, and most powerful pharaoh of the New Kingdom.Which itself was the most powerful period of ancient Egypt.He is also widely considered one of ancient Egypt’s most successful warrior pharaohs, conducting no fewer than 15 military campaigns, all resulting in victories, excluding the Battle of kadesh, generally considered a stalemate.

In ancient Greek sources, his name was Ozymandias from the first part of his Egyptian-language regnal name: Usermaatre Setepnre. Ramesses was as the “Great Ancestor” by successor pharaohs and the Egyptian people.

Early life

In fact, Ramesses II was born a civilian. His grandfatherwas a civilian military officer during the reign of pharaoh Horemheb  .Who appointed Ramesses I as his successor. Ramesses was approximately eleven years old at the time of his father’s accession.

In fact, he was approximately fourteen years of age at the time. Today, most Egyptologists believe that Ramesses formally assumed the throne on 31 May 1279 BC, based on his known accession date: III Season of the Harvest, day 27.
