Ahmose I Mummy

Ahmose I, also referred to as Amosis I, was an ancient Egyptian pharaoh who ruled from around 1549-1524 BC. His mummy is of great historical significance and has provided valuable insights into the life and times of this powerful ruler.

Ahmose I was the founder of the Eighteenth Dynasty. Which marked the beginning of the New Kingdom period in Egyptian history. He was the son of pharaoh Seqenenre Tao II and his wife Ahhotep I. Ahmose I was a successful military commander who drove out the Hyksos from Egypt and restored the Egyptian kingdom to its former glory. His reign saw many significant architectural and cultural achievements. With a particular emphasis on the construction of monumental temples and pyramids.

The mummy of Ahmose I

It was discovered in the Deir el Bahri tomb complex of his daughter, Hatshepsut. The mummy was wrapped in linen and adorned with a gold mask. Portraying the ruler in a majestic and regal manner. The body was well-preserved, with the skull and teeth intact. Indicating that the pharaoh was likely in his sixties at the time of his death.
