New Valley Museum

The New Valley Museum, officially opened in Mut in 2017, is an extensive archaeological and cultural destination located in Egypt’s southwestern Al Wadi al Jadid (New Valley) governate.

This museum holds a vast collection of artefacts, exhibits, and multimedia displays, specifically focused on Al Wadi al Jadid region, showcasing ancient Egyptian heritage from the Pharaonic, Greek, Roman, Coptic, and Islamic eras. The museum’s narrative follows the mythical ancient Egyptian “Book of the Dead” accompanied by high-quality artefacts and archaeological finds displayed chronologically. The exhibits include a vast array of mummies, tomb decorations, and fragments of statues that once adorned temples.

One of the most popular and intriguing exhibits is the mummified remains of a 30 to 40-year-old woman called “Lady Rai.” The intricate gold coffin in which she was buried is also on display and is considered one of the finest examples of ancient Egyptian craftsmanship. Another significant exhibit is that of the Golden Mummies, where sixteen high-profile mummies, entombed in painted cartonnage, are on full display. They are stunning in their vibrant blue, red, gold and yellow dress, adorned with intricate intricate jewelry; the mummies represent one of the largest such collections on view in Egypt. Additionally, the museum offers immersive experiences like the multisensory screening room adjecent to the main hall, where movies on ancient Egypt are screened. It has a sound and light show, which is an extravaganza worth watching.

Overall,

The New Valley Museum is a unique experience that allows visitors to discover the ancient Egyptian civilization, by dealing with its traditions and beliefs in fun and interactive ways. It not only gives insight into the art and archaeology of the region, but also grants an opportunity to understand the culture of the region as a whole. It is an essential tourist destination that should not be missed by anyone traveling to Egypt.
