Discover the Mysteries of Saqqara: Egypt’s Old Kingdom Necropolis

Your journey begins with a visit to Saqqara, a vast necropolis that served as the burial ground for the ancient Egyptian capital, Memphis. Known for the Step Pyramid of Djoser, the world’s oldest stone-cut pyramid, Saqqara is a testament to Egypt’s architectural ingenuity. Built during the 27th century BC for Pharaoh Djoser, the Step Pyramid is a marvel of ancient engineering, featuring a series of mastabas stacked atop one another to form a pyramid shape.

As you explore the vast complex, you’ll encounter a multitude of tombs, burial chambers, and ancient hieroglyphic inscriptions. The site also houses numerous well-preserved statues and stelae that provide insight into the religious beliefs and funerary practices of ancient Egypt. Your guide will narrate fascinating stories about the pharaohs and the significance of these monuments, making your visit both educational and inspiring.

Explore the Ancient Capital: Memphis

Next, your tour takes you to Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt and a vital cultural and religious hub during the Old Kingdom. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Memphis boasts a sprawling open-air museum filled with relics and statues. Among the highlights is the colossal statue of Ramses II, which symbolizes Egypt’s grandeur during the New Kingdom.

The Bent Pyramid, built during the reign of Pharaoh Snefru, is famous for its distinctive angle change halfway up, giving it a unique silhouette. It represents a transitional phase in pyramid design, bridging the step pyramid and the true smooth-sided pyramids. Nearby, the Red Pyramid, also constructed by Snefru, is the first successful attempt at building a true pyramid with smooth sides.
